CITY CODE VIOLATIONS

the Fight against panhandling

There is a difference between ‘panhandling’ and ‘homelessness’, panhandling does not per se indicate someone to be homeless. It can be confusing to know what to do when a person that appears in need asks you for money outside a store, gas station or walks up to your vehicle at a intersection.

Keep in mind that these panhandlers are either not interested in using the resources being made available to them, or do not commit to the agencies reaching out to them due to collecting enough money from the public to feed their needs.

Good Samaritans donate to panhandlers, giving food or money, without understanding that they are sustaining a way of life counterproductive to the true help needed in our community.
